This article analyzes the three pillars of the Chile-European Union Association Agreement, in force since March 1, 2005: political dialogue, cooperation and trade. The Agreement incorporates the most comprehensive and ambitious economic and commercial chapter of all those the EU has signed up to the present time in this type of agreement, also including political dialogue and cooperation as central axes, arranging a political and economic association between the Parties, based on reciprocity, common interest and the deepening of their relationships. The great expectations that the Agreement has generated in all fields, and which have been confirmed after the first two years of its commercial chapter, have been further increased after the accession of ten new members to the EU.El presente artículo analiza los tres pilares del Acuerdo de Asociación Chile-Unión Europea, en vigor desde el 1 de marzo de 2005: diálogo político, cooperación y comercio. El Acuerdo incorpora el capítulo económico y comercial más completo y ambicioso de cuantos la UE ha suscrito hasta el momento presente en este tipo de acuerdos, incluyendo, asimismo, el diálogo político y la cooperación como ejes centrales, configurando una asociación política y económica entre las Partes, basada en la reciprocidad, el interés común y la profundización de sus relaciones. Las grandes expectativas que en todos los campos ha generado el Acuerdo, y que se han visto confirmadas tras los dos primeros años de vigencia de su capítulo comercial, se han visto todavía incrementadas tras la adhesión de diez nuevos miembros a la UE.
