The end of the Cold War has not, as many thought, resulted in a decrease in conflict. Considering the above, this paper analyzes arms and the military industry as a cause-effect relationship. This affects not only the great powers but also the poorest countries, to the detriment of the socio-economic development of the latter. The disarmament agreements have been insufficient and as long as the demand exists, the supply will continue. In this way, the reduction in military spending, arms manufacturing and official trade has not meant obtaining dividends for peace, since the resources obtained have not been used for development tasks.El fin de la Guerra Fría no ha resultado, como muchos pensaban, en una disminución de los conflictos. Considerando lo anterior, en este trabajo se analiza el armamentismo y la industria bélica como una relación causa-efecto. Esto afecta no solo a las grandes potencias sino también a los países más pobres, en desmedro del desarrollo socio-económico de estos últimos. Los acuerdos de desarme han sido insuficientes y mientras exista la demanda continuará la oferta. De esta manera, la disminución de los gastos militares, de la fabricación de armas y del comercio oficial no ha significado obtener dividendos para la paz, ya que los recursos que se han obtenido no han sido destinados a tareas de desarrollo.
