Latin America has witnessed the creation of a mechanism for political and diplomatic coalition known as the Permanent Mechanism for Consultation and Concerted Political Action of the Group of Eight. The Acapulco Summit allowed the Group of Eight to formalize itself, to a certain extent, as the regional interlocutor that prevents solutions for Latin America from exclusively coming from partial and exclusive hegemonic dictates. The group has been characterized by promoting initiatives to deal with the Central American crisis, external debt, obstacles to integration, food crises, and poverty in Latin America, among other issues. In this work, we analyze it creation, performance and some of the perspectives and challenges that it will face in the immediate future.América Latina ha sido testigo de la creación de un mecanismo de concertación política y diplomática conocido como Mecanismo Permanente de Consulta y Concertación Política (MPCCP) del Grupo de los Ocho. La Cumbre de Acapulco permitió al Grupo de los Ocho formalizarse, hasta cierto punto, como el interlocutor regional que impide que las soluciones para América Latina provengan exclusivamente de dictados hegemónicos parciales y excluyentes. El grupo se ha caracterizado por la promoción de iniciativas para hacer frente a la crisis centroamericana, endeudamiento externo, a los obstáculos a la integración, a las crisis alimentarias, la pobreza absoluta en América Latina, entre otros temas. En el presente trabajo se analiza su formación, desempeño y algunas de las perspectivas y retos a los que habrá de enfrentarse en el futuro inmediato.
