dc.descriptionThe war in the South Atlantic was not just any confrontation. The conflict synthesized in a complex way many of the problems that have characterized the international relations of Latin America and its internal dimensions. This article focuses on the following aspects of the crisis: the issue of democratization as a component of the national interest of the countries of the Southern Cone and also of the United States in the region; the problem of the "diversification of dependency" as an additional interest of the Latin American states; the future of inter-American relations; the perspectives of the Argentine-Soviet ties and, finally, the possible directions of intra-Latin American relations.en-US

El conflicto sintetizó de un modo complejo muchos de los problemas que han caracterizado las relaciones internacionales de América Latina y sus dimensiones internas. Este artículo se centra en los siguientes aspectos de la crisis: el tema de la democratización como componente del interés nacional de los países del Cono Sur y también como interés de Estados Unidos en la región; el problema de la "diversificación de la dependencia" como interés adicional de los estados latinoamericanos; el futuro de las relaciones interamericanas; las perspectivas de los vínculos argentino-soviéticos y, por último, las posibles direcciones de las relaciones intralatinoamericanas.es-ES
