To address the issue of the international economic crisis in a period characterized by so much confusion and the prospects for Latin America, it must be considered that in recent decades the region experienced a process of economic and social development that profoundly transformed it. This structural crisis affects both the western and socialist worlds and adds to the so-called recessive crisis. The fact is that the uncertainty and confusion prevailing in advanced countries aggravates the situation in Latin American countries. We maintain that the way in which the international crisis affected the periphery and especially Latin America, and the modalities that its recessive impact is taking in those countries, are strongly linked to what we call the financial syndrome, as a result of their deep indebtedness. This is manifested in the acceleration of inflation and the explosive increase in debt.Para abordar el tema de la crisis económica internacional en un periodo caracterizado por tanta confusión y las perspectivas para América Latina, hay que considerar que en las últimas décadas la región experimentó un proceso de desarrollo económico y social que la transformó profundamente. Esta crisis estructural afecta tanto al mundo occidental como al socialista y se suma a la llamada crisis recesiva. El hecho es que la incertidumbre y confusión que reinan en los países avanzados agrava la situación de los países latinoamericanos. Sostenemos que la forma como la crisis internacional afectó a la periferia y especialmente a América Latina, y las modalidades que está adoptando su impacto recesivo en esos países, están fuertemente vinculadas a lo que llamamos el síndrome financiero, producto de su profundo endeudamiento. Esto se manifiesta en la aceleración de la inflación y el incremento explosivo de la deuda.
