| dc.description | The economic relations between the countries of Latin America and those that make up the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have historically been very important. The changes in the more prosperous societies of the industrial countries and the transformations that are taking place in Latin America have created a new set of factors that determine the conditions of these relationships in the future. The region cannot depend exclusively on trade as a means of generating the foreign exchange earnings it needs. To achieve a sustained process of development, Latin America must also resort to borrowing and foreign investment to cover this shortfall. | en-US |
| dc.description | Las relaciones económicas entre los países de América Latina y los que integran la Organización para la Cooperación Económica y el Desarrollo (OCED) han sido históricamente muy importantes. Los cambios en las sociedades más prosperas de los países industriales y las transformaciones que están ocurriendo en América Latina han creado un nuevo conjunto de factores que determinan las condiciones de estas relaciones en el futuro. La región no puede depender exclusivamente del intercambio comercial como medio de generar los ingresos en divisas que necesita. Para lograr un proceso sostenido de desarrollo, América Latina debe recurrir también a empréstitos e inversiones externas a fin de cubrir esa insuficiencia. | es-ES |
