There are four economic problems raised by policymakers today when they study how to build a win-win world economy. The first is how to restore growth and progress in the industrialized countries. The second one is how to accommodate the surpluses of the oil-exporting countries. The third is how to help middle-income developing countries regain the growth rate achieved in the 1960s. The fourth and final problem is posed by the bleak development prospects of the poorest countries, facing continued stagnation. We argue that it is necessary to consider that policies that are of mutual benefit to both industrialized and developing countries will have increasing importance for all and that it is necessary to project the current economic order so that it operates more fruitfully in the service of both the North and the South.Existen cuatro problemas económicos planteados hoy por los formuladores de políticas cuando estudian cómo establecer una economía mundial ventajosa para todos. El primero es cómo restablecer el crecimiento y progreso en los países industrializados. El segundo, cómo acomodarse a los superávit de los países exportadores de petróleo. El tercero consiste en cómo ayudar a los países en desarrollo de ingresos medios a recuperar ritmo de crecimiento logrado en los 60. El cuarto es el que plantean las sombrías perspectivas de desarrollo de los países más pobres, enfrentados a una estagnación continua. Sostenemos que es preciso considerar que las políticas que son de beneficio mutuo para los países industrializados y en desarrollo tendrán importancia creciente para todos y que es necesario proyectar el actual orden económico para que opere más fructíferamente tanto al servicio del Norte como del Sur.
