In the present Latin American economic and social situation, there are two great concerns. The first is to satisfy the essential needs of the great mass excluded from the fruits of the development of the last decades. The second is to find a different and more favorable mode of insertion into the international economy. Regarding the first point, we maintain that Latin America is in a position to tackle tasks that in the past might seem too ambitious but that today have become objectively possible. Regarding the second, we want to emphasize the greater capacity of the region to resist and adapt to the consequences of the international turbulence of recent years, which still persists. This means imagining the kind of new international economic order that interests Latin America and the way in which the region should settle in that context.En el presente económico social latinoamericano, existen dos grandes preocupaciones. La primera es satisfacer las necesidades esenciales de la gran masa excluida de los frutos del desarrollo de las últimas décadas. La segunda es encontrar un distinto y más favorable modo de inserción en la economía internacional. Respecto al primer punto, sostenemos que América Latina se encuentra en situación de abordar tareas que en el pasado podían parecer demasiado ambiciosas pero que hoy se han tornado objetivamente posibles. En relación al segundo, queremos acentuar la mayor capacidad de la región para resistir y adaptarse a las consecuencias de la turbulencia internacional de los últimos años, que todavía perdura. Ello supone imaginar la clase de nuevo orden económico internacional que interesa a América Latina y la forma en que la región debe asentarse en ese contexto.
