The Vietnamization of the conflict in Southeast Asia has become typically North American and its price is currently too high. There is no intention of taking the obvious path: liquidating the intervention. Nothing in the past year has been officially said or done by the Nixon administration to give the slightest hope that Vietnamization is - as some suppose - the dignified way to leave Vietnam while saving American pride. On the contrary, recent events in both Laos and Cambodia clearly indicate that the United States is moving towards greater intervention throughout the Indochinese peninsula.La vietnamización del conflicto en el sudeste asiático se ha vuelto típicamente norteamericana y su precio es en la actualidad demasiado elevado. No existe la intención de emprender el camino obvio: liquidar la intervención. Durante el año pasado, la administración Nixon nada ha dicho o hecho, oficialmente, que dé la más leve esperanza de que la vietnamización es –como algunos suponen– la forma decorosa de abandonar Vietnam y al mismo tiempo salvar el orgullo norteamericano. Por el contrario, los sucesos recientes ocurridos tanto en Laos como en Camboya nos indican claramente que Estados Unidos se dirige hacia una mayor intervención en toda la península de Indochina.
