The new Criminal Procedure Code was published in the Official Gazette on October 12, 2000. The bill had been sent to the Chamber of Deputies on June 13, 1995 and after intense and relatively quick processing, it was promulgated by the President of the Republic, Mr. Ricardo Lagos Escobar, and the Minister of Justice, Mr. José Antonio Gómez Urrutia on September 29, 2000. The culmination of the work initiated by the Minister of Justice at the time, Mrs. María Soledad Alvear V. was completed. Its validity, in accordance with article 484, will be staggered in the different regions of the country, beginning in the regions of Coquimbo and Araucania on December 16, 2000.En el Diario Oficial del día 12 de octubre de 2000 fue publicado el nuevo Código Procesal Penal. El proyecto de ley habia sido enviado a la Cámara de Diputados el día 13 de junio de 1995 y luego de una intensa y relativamente rápida tramitación, se promulgó por el Presidente de la República don Ricardo Lagos Escobar y el Ministro de Justicia don José Antonio Gómez Urrutia el 29 de septiembre de 2000. La culminación de la obra iniciada por la Ministra de Justicia de la época, doña María Soledad Alvear V. quedaba consumada. Su vigencia, conforme al artículo 484, se irá haciendo escalonadamente en las distintas regiones del pais, iniciándose en las regiones de Coquimbo y de la Araucania el día 16 de diciembre de 2000.
