This article explains the multiple causes that impacted what the authors call the “theological silence of the Western Cuba Baptist Church.” That phenomenon, which is an expression of the interaction between the socio-political changes that operated within the revolutionary process that began in 1959, more specifically, through the introduction of Marxism as an ideology for rebuilding the country, and the socio-political conservatism of that church, created a sort of theological mutism that made it unable to recover its social purpose and overcome its state of social marginalization. This article is based on historical analysis and oral history and explains the genesis of the historical nature of the theology receiving -and not producing- institution of the Western Cuban Baptist Church and its socio-political conservatism. In the second section, the authors explain why during a period in which the socio-political changes made in society as a result of the Cuban Revolution organizations demanded the reorientation of organization’s mission to adapt to the needs of the new socialist society, the Western Cuban Baptist Church continued to be a theologically sterile institution, remaining on the margins of society.en-US
