The present article refers specifically to the creation and evolution experienced by the Vitiviniculture School of Cauquenes from the end of the 19th Century until 1905. It seeks to highlight this initiative as one of the most important experiences of vitiviniculture teaching in Central-Southern Chile. The article also analyzes the vicissitudes that the principals and local authorities faced to make this project work, due to its location, practically on the southern border of the epoch's French plantations, and to contribute to improving the quality of the wine produced in the region.El presente artículo se refiere específicamente a la creación y evolución experimentada por la Escuela de Vitivinicultura de Cauquenes desde fines del siglo XIX hasta 1905. Se pretende destacar esta iniciativa como una de las más importantes desde el punto de vista de la enseñanza de la vitivinicultura en la zona centro-sur de Chile. Al mismo tiempo, analizar las vicisitudes experimentadas por los directores y autoridades locales para hacer funcionar, prácticamente, en el límite sur de las plantaciones francesas de la época, una escuela que contribuiría a mejorar la calidad del vino producido en la región.
