This writing tries, in the first instance (authority), to present a sketch of what has been the biography as kind (genre) graphic-history. Secondly, to identify the kinds of biography. Likewise refer to the object, to the methodology and to the usefulness of the biography. Finally, to highlight its importance for the investigation (research) of the regional history. For its elaboration I kept in mind European and Latin American authors, as my personal experience as biographer.Este escrito pretende, en primera instancia, presentar un esbozo de lo que ha sido la biografía como género historiográfico. En segundo lugar, identificar los tipos de biografía. Así mismo hacer referencia al objeto, a la metodología y a la utilidad de la biografía. Finalmente, resaltar su importancia para la investigación de la historia regional. Para su elaboración tuve en cuenta autores europeos y latinoamericanos, al igual que mi experiencia personal como biógrafo.
