| dc.description | This article studies the epidemic of Bubonic Plague that occurred in Iquique in 1903. It searches to understand its expansion in the physical, social and natural environment. This search is translated by knowing the city of Iquique, understanding its economic significance as a saltpeter port. Moreover, to see its infrastructure and climatic features. At the same time, the social shock of the epidemic forms an axis of great importance. For the same reason, the measures taken by the authorities and the social reaction through media and medical reports will be analyzed. At that rate, the epidemic analysis is raised as a global research, allowing the review of several process that affected the expansion of the Bubonic Plague in our country. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este artículo estudia la epidemia de peste bubónica acaecida en el puerto de Iquique en el año 1903. Se busca comprender su desarrollo en el entorno natural, social y material. Esta búsqueda se traduce en conocer la ciudad de Iquique, comprendiendo su importancia económica como puerto salitrero. Además, observar sus características climáticas y de infraestructura. A su vez, el impacto social de la epidemia se configura como un eje de gran importancia, para lo cual se analizan las medidas tomadas por la autoridad y las reacciones sociales a través de prensa e informes médicos. De este modo, el análisis de la epidemia se plantea como un estudio global, permitiendo la relectura de diversos procesos que afectaron el desarrollo de la peste bubónica en nuestro país. | es-ES |
