This article explains the influence of neo-Malthusianism in the configuration of U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America during the Cold War. Based on Harvard University’s Countway Library of Medicine archives and specialized bibliography, it analyzes the neo-Malthusian postulates as a paradigm of North American hemispheric security. In that proposal, we propose that as long as there was control of the ‘population explosion’ in underdeveloped countries, it would be possible to prevent outbreaks of future social conflicts and socialist revolutions. In short, we study the implications of neo-Malthusianism in Latin America as a matrix of thought, a tool of social engineering, and a strategy of demographic containment and pro-North American geopolitics in a bipolar global scenario.El artículo explica la influencia del neomalthusianismo en la configuración de la política exterior de Estados Unidos hacia América Latina durante la Guerra Fría. Con base en archivos del Countway Library of Medicine de la Universidad de Harvard y de bibliografía especializada, se analizan los postulados neomalthusianos como paradigma de seguridad hemisférica norteamericano. En aquella propuesta se planteó la idea de que mientras existiera control de la “explosión demográfica” en los países subdesarrollados sería posible prevenir focos de futuros conflictos sociales y revoluciones socialistas. En definitiva, se estudian las implicancias del neomalthusianismo en América Latina como matriz de pensamiento, herramienta de ingeniería social y estrategia de contención demográfica y geopolítica pronorteamericana en un escenario global bipolar.
