The Roman dictatorship has been the subject of several studies and research that have centered primarily on its characteristics as magistrature, and how it should be approached to serve as historical background to the current debates on excepctional powers and states of emergency. Still, on the topic about its disappearance, attention has traditionally focused on the dictatorships of Sulla and Caesar, leaving aside the fact that we have sources at our diposition that tell us about one of the few cases in Roman political history in wich a magistrature have been formally abolished by law.La dictadura romana ha sido objeto de varios estudios e investigaciones que se han centrado, de manera principal, en sus características como magistratura, y en cómo debe ser abordada para servir de antecedente histórico para los actuales debates sobre los poderes de emergencia y los regímenes de excepción en un Estado constitucional de derecho. Sin embargo, en lo que a su desaparición se refiere, la atención de los estudiosos ha se enfocado tradicionalmente en las dictaduras de Sila y de César, sin adentrarse mayormente en las fuentes que nos informan específicamente sobre uno de los pocos casos en la historia política romana en que se abolió una magistratura formalmente por medio de una ley.
