dc.descriptionIn this paper the role of music as generator of the religious experience among members of the Pentecostal group is analyzed. The importance of music in the charismatic evangelistic rhetoric is studied along with its support for the performing structure of the cult as an element of continuity and a characteristic feature of its evolution. The different functions of music are examined putting an emphasis on its role as means of enlivening the congregation to bring out the Holy Spirit. Due to the capacity of music for social and somatic synchronization, choral performance by the congregation creates a transpersonal experience preceding processes of emotional changes and inducing deep bodily states of conscience in dance, which are considered as supernatural signs of power. Music appears here as a powerful vehicle for transcending the daily world of life with cathartic and strengthening effects.en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo analiza el papel de la música en la producción de la experiencia religiosa pentecostal. El texto muestra el rol central que desempeña en la retórica del evangelismo carismático, como apoyo de la estructura performativa del culto, elemento de continuidad y marcador de su evolución. Se examinan sus diversas funciones, pero sobre todo su papel como medio de avivamiento congregacional a través del que se produce la manifestación del Espíritu Santo. Por su capacidad para la sincronización somática y social, el ejercicio coral comunitario se muestra aquí como proveedor de una experiencia transpersonal, como precursor de procesos de transformación emotiva e inductor de estados de conciencia corporal profunda en el baile, que se tienen como signos de un poder sobrenatural. La música se muestra así como una poderosa vía para la trascendencia del mundo de vida cotidiana, de efectos catárticos y revitalizantes.es-ES
