Abstract
Thompson A. Andrade, from an academic perspective, analises the industrialisation strategy followed in Minas Gerais in the period 1970-1977. The State of Minas was vey active in the promotion of industrial development through the concession of tax incentives. The author's position towards this strategy is highly original since he hypothesis that eventhoug the State lost a very large amount of tax income through this incentive, and that they represented an increase in the real rentability of the firms, they were not definitive in their decision to locate in the State. Most probably these firms would have located there anyhow because the incentives were not exclusive of the State of Minas Gerais, and Minas was by itself a good docation. The author analises several other topics refering to the industrialisation process of the state. Among these topics he touches upon the point of employment and the origin of the investment, in terms of it being foreign or domestic; curiosly and against hypothesis, foreign investment in new development was slightly more labor intensive than domestic investment.
