During the La Tirana Festival, cultural and religious expressions are developed that are part of the north of Chile’s musical-choreographic tradition. One of these manifestations is the rhythm of the salto initially linked to the chuncho dances and with wide dissemination from the mid-20th century. This article analyzes the sound, musical and choreographic characteristics, expanding the knowledge about this musical genre and its socio-cultural and historical context.Durante la fiesta de La Tirana se desarrollan expresiones culturales y religiosas que forman parte de la tradición músico-coreográfica del norte chileno. Una de estas manifestaciones es el ritmo del salto, vinculado inicialmente a los bailes chunchos y con una amplia difusión a partir de mediados del siglo. En este artículo se analizan las características sonoras, musicales y coreográficas, expandiendo el conocimiento acerca de este género musical y su contexto sociocultural e histórico.
