dc.descriptionResearch about social participation in mexican municipalities tends to be directed towards its implementation, institutionalisation, and development or sometimes to the analysis of its contribution to democratic culture under governance. Nevertheless, there remains a lack of knowledge within those who practice this kind of participation. This article digs into Zapopan’s members of neighborhood organizations through a survey that allows to explore the context and personal motivations that make these people involved in public agenda and activities. The main goal of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of citizenship mechanisms from the perspective of those who practice them, and by doing so, also help to improve public policy design at municipal level.en-US
dc.descriptionLas investigaciones sobre la participación ciudadana a nivel municipal en México por lo regular se han dirigido a su implementación, institucionalización y desarrollo, o bien, a analizar sus aportaciones a la cultura democrática en un contexto de gobernanza; no obstante, existe un vacío de conocimientos sobre quienes materializan esta participación. Este artículo se adentra en el perfil que guardan los miembros de organizaciones vecinales de Zapopan, México, a través de la aplicación de una encuesta que permitió además indagar en el contexto y motivaciones que los impulsan a involucrarse en la vida pública. Se busca aportar al entendimiento de los procesos ciudadanos desde la perspectiva de quienes los configuran y así contribuir a la mejora en el diseño de políticas públicas municipales.es-ES
