Sensitivity of the Film Array multiple respiratory panel for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in a pediatric hospital population

dc.descriptionIntroduction: Quickly identifying positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 is an effective method of reducing transmission. The objective of the study was to determine the sensitivity of the respiratory panel of the Film Array to detect SARS-CoV-2 in a pediatric hospital population. Material and Method: Study of diagnostic tests. The Film Array respiratory panel, a rapid PCR system (1 hour) was compared with the conventional RT-PCR (RocheDiagnostic Ltd, Forrenstrasse Swizerland), from the hospital laboratory as a gold standard. Patient from 0 to 18 years old with indication for nasopharyngeal swab for SARS-CoV-2 were included. In the laboratory the sample was divided into 2 aliquots, one for conventional RT- PCR and the other for the study with the Film Array and they were analyzed independently and blindly. The demographic variables, place and reason for sampling, presence of comorbidities and vulnerable family contact, were collected using the Google form and analyzed with SPSS, and the Alan Schwartz’s diagnostic test. The protocol was approved by the institutional ethics committee. Results: 339 patients entered the study with a median age of 5 years (IQR 1-11),51% female,46% for respiratory symptoms, 41.6% for room protocol, 12.4% contact. 14% were positive by RT_ PCR and 18.5% by Film Array, concordance r = 0.8. Sensitivity was 98%, Specificity 95% PPV 75% and NPV 99% LR + 18 (95% CI 11-29) and LR – 0.02 (95% CI 00-0.15) Post-test probability 75% (95% CI 64- 83). Conclusions: The respiratory panel of the Film Array presented a high sensitivity with a LR+ 18 and LR – 0,02 and a post-test probability of 75%.en-US
dc.descriptionIntroducción: Identificar rápidamente los casos positivos de SARS-CoV-2 es un método efectivo de disminuir la transmisión. Objetivo: determinar la sensibilidad del panel respiratorio del Film Array, para detectar el SARS-CoV-2 en una población pediátrica hospitalaria. Material y Método: Estudio de pruebas diagnósticas. El panel respiratorio Film Array, un sistema de PCR rápida (1 hora) fue comparado con el RT-PCR convencional (Roche Diagnostic Ltd, Forrenstrasse Swizerland) del laboratorio del hospital como estándar de referencia. Fueron incluidos pacientes de 0 a 18 años de edad con indicación de hisopado nasofaríngeo SARS-CoV-2. En el laboratorio la muestra se dividió en 2 alícuotas, una para la PCR convencional y otra para el estudio con el Film Array y fueron analizadas en forma independiente y ciega. Las variables demográficas, lugar y motivo de toma de muestra, presencia de comorbilidades y contacto familiares vulnerables, fueron recogidos utilizando el formulario de Google, y analizados con SPSS, y el test de pruebas diagnósticas de Alan Schwartz. El protocolo fue aprobado por el comité de ética. Resultados: 339 pacientes ingresaron al estudio, con edad mediana de 5 años (RIC 1-11),51% de sexo femenino,46% por síntomas respiratorios, 41,6% por protocolo de sala, 12,4 % contacto. Fueron positivo el 14% por RT- PCR y el 18,5% por Film Array, concordancia r = 0,8. La sensibilidad fue del 98%, la especificidad 95% el VPP 75% y el VPN 99%El CPP + 18 (IC 95% 11-29) y el CPN – 0,02 (IC 95% 00 -0,15) La probabilidad post test 75% (IC 95% 64 -83). Conclusiones: El panel respiratorio del Film Array presento una elevada sensibilidad Con un CPP + 18 y CPN – 0,02 y una probabilidad de post test del 75%.es-ES
