dc.description	The article asks about the proper management of a cultural asset recently recog- nized in the heritage field: cemeteries. First, a brief synthesis of the current state of fune- rary heritage in Latin America is developed, through the analysis of a set of cases obtained from various monographic sources, recognizing a set of relevant dimensions with respect to its protection and enhancement. Secondly, the case of the General Cemetery of Santiago de Chile is analyzed from a set of relevant dimensions to recognize its safeguarding and valuation as a cultural property. The information analyzed comes from the application of qualitative techniques including interviews with qualified informants, field work and the study of secondary documentation and monographs. It is concluded that the specific case presents a set of peculiar characteristics that make asset management difficult. However, when comparing the management of the cultural property under study with other references, important advances in the creation of a framework for the protection and promotion of the funerary heritage are recognized.	en-US
dc.description	El artículo se pregunta por la adecuada gestión de un bien cultural recientemente reconocido en el campo patrimonial: los cementerios. En primer lugar, se desarrolla una breve síntesis del estado actual del patrimonio funerario en Hispanoamérica, mediante análisis de un conjunto de casos obtenidos de diversas fuentes monográficas, reconociendo un conjunto de dimensiones relevantes respecto de su protección y puesta en valor. En segundo lugar, se analiza el caso del Cementerio General de Santiago de Chile, desde un conjunto de dimensiones relevantes para reconocer su salvaguardia y valoración como bien cultural. La información analizada proviene de un conjunto de entrevistas a informantes calificados, trabajo de campo y estudio de documentación primaria y monografías. Se concluye que el caso específico presenta un conjunto de características peculiares que dificultan su gestión patrimonial. Sin embargo, al comparar la gestión del bien cultural estudiado con otros referentes, se reconocen importantes avances en la generación de un marco de protección y fomento del patrimonio funerario.	es-ES
