PLANNING OF TOURIST DESTINATIONS: A PENDING CHALLENGE FOR MUNICIPAL MANAGEMENT IN CHILE

dc.descriptionTourism management is a topic of growing interest at the local level. In Chile, 108 new offices, departments, or directorates responsible for tourism were created within municipalities between 2010 and 2020. This article analyzes this development, addressing the following questions: Do touristic destinations in Chile have tourism development plans that guide the management of municipal authorities? What degree of progress in the implementation of their plans of action have these municipalities registered? The objective is to contribute to reflection on the scenario within which the country's touristic municipalities are currently operating. This is a key issue at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has stimulated international debate about the new conditions that tourist destinations must meet to accommodate visitor demand once borders reopen and confidence in travel recovers.en-US
dc.descriptionLa gestión del turismo es un tema de creciente interés a nivel local. En Chile, entre 2010 y 2020 se crearon 108 nuevas oficinas, departamentos o direcciones responsables de turismo en municipalidades. El presente artículo analiza este desarrollo, abordando las siguientes preguntas: ¿se cuenta en los destinos turísticos de Chile con planes de desarrollo turístico que orienten la gestión de las autoridades municipales? ¿Qué grado de avance registran estas comunas en la ejecución de sus planes de acción? El objetivo es contribuir a la reflexión sobre el escenario en que actualmente se desenvuelven las municipalidades turísticas del país. Este es un tema clave en un momento en que la pandemia de COVID-19 ha estimulado el debate internacional acerca de las nuevas condiciones que deberán cumplir los destinos turísticos para acoger la demanda de visitantes una vez que se reabran las fronteras y se recupere la confianza en viajar.es-ES
