| dc.description | This article aims to analyze water supply for human consumption during the colonial period in Santiago de Chile. Using the concept of governance as a reference framework, this work characterizes water supply sources available to the inhabitants of the city, the institutions in charge of managing their access, and the destructive impact that some natural phenomena, such as floods and earthquakes, had in the infrastructure designed for that purpose. Finally, the importance of historical knowledge is highlighted, which is manifested in the understanding of both sociopolitical contexts and institutional tradition, for the current and future governance of this natural resource. | en-US |
| dc.description | El artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el abastecimiento de agua para consumo humano en Santiago de Chile durante el periodo colonial. Utilizando como marco de referencia el concepto de gobernanza, en el trabajo se caracterizan las fuentes de suministro de agua de que dispusieron los habitantes de la ciudad, la institucionalidad encargada de gestionar su acceso y el destructivo impacto que algunos fenómenos naturales, como inundaciones y terremotos, tuvieron en la infraestructura destinada para ese fin. Finalmente, se releva la importancia del conocimiento histórico, manifestado tanto en la comprensión de los contextos sociopolíticos como en la tradición institucional, para la gobernanza actual y futura de este recurso natural. | es-ES |
