Abstract
The following article analyzes the visual strategies present in the novel Distant Star, by Roberto Bolaño, as built from a described visual appearance, at times ecphrastic, and displayed, on one hand, in the shape of scenes and expositions and, on the other, as photographic and cinematographic images. In either case, the characters are forced to take their place as observers, witnesses or spectators. Thus, it is from this visual or visible presence in the novel in which the gaze plays a fundamental role, that certain crossovers between image and text are established, conceived as political and cultural tensions.
