dc.descriptionEste trabajo trata sobre el origen y clasificación de los apellidos en general, con una especial atención en Chiloé y su zona de influencia. Luego de explicarse y rectificarse algunos errores comunes en tópicos de las ciencias genealógicas (como la creencia de pertenecer a un mismo linaje por portar el mismo apellido, el tratamiento honorífico del Don o del doble apellido, los muchos abusos en la heráldica), se concluye aportando un estado de situación en Chiloé.es-ES
dc.descriptionThis paper deals with the origin and classification of surnames in general, with a special consideration of Chiloé and its area of influence. After having explained and corrected some common errors in genealogical science topics (such as the belief of belonging to the same lineage for carrying a same surname, the honorific treatment of ‘Don’ or the use of double surnames, the many abuses in heraldry, etc.) it concludes with a status in Chiloé.en-US
