dc.descriptionLos diálogos de Platón muestran con claridad que la música en Grecia no es un bálsamo ni un mero entretenimiento. La música es un dispositivo cultural de producción, perfeccionamiento y perpetuación de la individualidad psíquica y de la comunidad política: ethos y condición de posibilidad de la polis. Lejos de almacenarse en el cofre hermético de las élites sociales y en los palacios de la erudición, la música pertenece a la dimensión más epidérmica de la cotidianidad y, en este sentido, se convierte en un asunto urgente para la reflexión ética (cómo vivir con uno mismo y con los demás), pedagógica (cómo educar para la vida en común) y política (cómo gobernar y cómo ser gobernados). El objetivo del presente artículo es evidenciar la dimensión educativa de la música en Platón desde el esclarecimiento de su naturaleza bifronte (remedio y veneno) y de sus facultades tanto constructivas (de sujeto y de Estado) como destructivas (de estabilidad psíquica y política).es-ES
dc.descriptionPlato’s dialogues clearly show that, in Ancient Greece, music is not a balm nor mere amusement. Music is a cultural device of production, improvement and perpetuation of psychic identity and political community: ethos and condition sine qua non of the polis. Music is not stored in the hermetic chest of social elites nor in the palace of erudition: it belongs to the more epidermic dimension of daily life, and, in that sense, it becomes an urgent topic within the realms of ethical reflection (how to live individually and collectively), pedagogic (how to educate for common life) and political (how to rule and how to be ruled). This paper underlines the educational dimension of music in Plato, paying special attention to its bifrontal nature (remedy and poison) and its capacities, both constructive (of the Self and the Polis) and destructive (of psychic and political stability).en-US
