This article examines the case of Luisa Lynch’s Asian collecting–currently the Asian Collection in the National Museum from Fine Arts in Chile–according to the formation rules that define the practice of collecting and  outside of conventional analysis associated with the museum. It argues that the collecting of Asian art in Chile cannot be conceptualized like a museum collection. On the one hand, the paper reveals the characteristics and limitations of museality, that is and perspective of the museum and the rules that shape it, for the study of the Lynch collection. On the other hand, it offers a new approach based on principles that emerge from Lynch’s collecting phenomenon: the liberal attitude and its installation conditions.Este artículo investiga el caso del coleccionismo asiático de Luisa Lynch –actualmente la Colección Asiática del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes–, a partir de la caracterización de las reglas de formación que definen la práctica coleccionista, por fuera de los análisis convencionales asociados al Museo. La tesis de este trabajo sostiene que el coleccionismo asiático en Chile no puede ser conceptualizado como si fuese una colección museal. Esta investigación desarrolla, por una parte, los rasgos y límites del estudio de la colección Lynch desde el museo, a través de las leyes que lo circunscriben, la musealidad; otra, ofrece una nueva aproximación desde los principios que fundamentan al fenómeno coleccionista de Lynch: la actitud liberal y sus condiciones de instalación.
