dc.description	In the mid-twentieth century, the Chilean writer Joaquín Edwards Bello offered his memories about the Pompeian house, a luxurious residence in Valparaíso, where he lived during his youth. Indeed, it is a building that remains to this day and whose characteristics evoke the houses of the Roman aristocracy in Classical Antiquity. Based on the verification of those elements inspired by the architecture and ornamentation of the ancient towns of Pompeii, this article reflects on the meaning and symbolism of that influence, in relation to the social and cultural context of Valparaíso, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.	en-US
dc.description	A mediados del siglo XX, el escritor chileno Joaquín Edwards Bello ofreció sus recuerdos sobre la casa pompeyana, una lujosa residencia de Valparaíso en la que había vivido durante su juventud. Se trata de una edificación que se mantiene hasta la actualidad y cuyas características evocan las viviendas de la aristocracia romana en la Antigüedad. A partir de la constatación de elementos inspirados en la arquitectura y ornamentación de las antiguas casas de Pompeya, el presente artículo reflexiona sobre el sentido y simbolismo de dicha influencia en esta vivienda, en relación con el contexto social y cultural de Valparaíso a fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX.	es-ES
