| dc.description | The demolition of the Robin Hood Gardens housing development, designed by Alison and Peter Smithson, triggered massive media reactions in the context of brutalism’s regained popularity. As a result, the study explores the discourses expressed by the public through Instagram. This social media is understood as a collective space that influences how we appreciate and value the built environment. For this purpose, a mixed methodology was used. The material was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, incorporating the visual content analysis proposed by Gillian Rose. The findings reveal how images and comments by anonymous authors intersect with historical and theoretical realities about brutalism, while at the same time a sudden affection for the whole emerges. Finally, the article reflects on the use of these media in research and questions the overvaluation of architectural elements compared to those associated with the function of inhabiting, reminding us of the question raised by Banham in 1966 as to whether brutalism is ethical or aesthetic. | en-US |
| dc.description | La demolición del conjunto habitacional Robin Hood Gardens despertó multitudinarias reacciones en los medios, enmarcadas en la creciente popularidad del brutalismo. A raíz de ello, el estudio indaga en los discursos manifestados por el público a través de la red social Instagram, entendiéndola como un espacio colectivo que influye en cómo apreciamos y valoramos el entorno construido. Para ello se utilizó una metodología mixta; es decir, se analizó el material cuantitativa y cualitativamente, incorporando el análisis de contenido visual planteado por Gillian Rose. Los hallazgos revelan de qué manera imágenes y comentarios de autores anónimos se cruzan con realidades históricas y teóricas acerca del brutalismo, surgiendo al mismo tiempo un súbito afecto al conjunto. Finalmente, se reflexiona acerca del uso de estos medios en investigación como también se cuestiona la sobrevaloración de los elementos arquitectónicos en comparación con los asociados al habitar, enfrentándonos nuevamente a las reflexiones planteadas por Banham en 1966 sobre el verdadero propósito del brutalismo. | es-ES |
