We are interested upon thinking over the use that religious dances carry out in the public area in the Northern cities of Chile. These religious groups dominate, for their purposes, streets and squares to fulfill their activities during almost all the year. Dancing in a collective way is one of the main activities. Common areas in which they are represented politically, challenging sometimes the idea of a Chilean homogenous concept transmitted from the center of the nation. The strong presence of the popular religiousness in this part of the country, provides our cities with a regional identity that is expressed through the public presence. The popular religiousness is, probably, the only thing that is able to dominate the common areas to carry out their activities.Nos interesa reflexionar sobre el uso que los bailes religiosos realizan del espacio público en las ciudades del Norte Grande de Chile. Estos grupos religiosos se apropian para sus objetivos, de calles y de plazas para realizar sus actividades durante casi todo el año. Danzar en forma colectiva, es una de sus principales actividades. Espacios en común en la que se representan política- mente, desafiando a veces la idea de una chilenidad homogénea transmitida desde el centro de la nación. La fuerte presencia de la religiosidad popular en esta parte del país, le otorga a nuestras ciudades una identidad regional que se expresa a través de lo público. La religiosidad popular, es tal vez, la única que logra apropiarse de los espacios en común para realizar sus actividades.
