dc.descriptionThis paper criticizes present day university from an academic perspective. For this purpose the works Mission of the University by José Ortega y Gasset, Knowledge and Work by Max Scheler and Science, Society and Culture by Susan Haack are reviewed, plus the author ́s experience of forty years teaching at the university. The thesis is that present day university does not correspond to its essence as an institution of superior knowledge. This because in education, research, and contribution to the development of the country, present day universities do as doing as the conception of the university as a commercial enterprise has as perverse effects: a research that cannot cope with the failure intrinsic to any genuine research; an education that does not educates integrally that prepares only professionals; and the alleged contribution to the development of the country is only a response to the market.en-US
dc.descriptionEl artículo realiza una crítica a la universidad actual desde un punto de vista académico. Para hacerlo hace uso de las obras Misión de la Universidad de José Ortega y Gasset, Conocimiento y Trabajo de Max Scheler y Ciencia, Sociedad y Cultura de Susan Haack, más un aporte del autor sobre la base de cuarenta años de experiencia enseñando en la universidad. La tesis que se plantea es que la universidad hoy no corresponde a su esencia como institución educativa de nivel superior. Esto porque en la universidad se hace que se educa, que se investiga y se contribuye al desarrollo del país, cuando en verdad, la concepción de la universidad como una empresa tiene como efectos perversos una investigación que no se puede arriesgar al fracaso intrínseco en cualquier investigación genuina; una formación que no educa integralmente que solo prepara profesionales, y una contribución al desarrollo del país que no es nada más que una respuesta a las demandas del mercado.es-ES
