Abstract
The conquest of America by the Spanish from the end of the 15th century presented several forms. One of the most remarkable of these forms took place in the so called marginal frontiers, which has very special traits. These particularities are evident in a comparison between the Mapuche frontier in South Chile and the Chichimeca frontier in the northern New Spain, which also shows great similarities between them.
