The Law 21.057 introduced in Chile the technique of Videorecorded Investigative Interviewing to prevent secondary victimization of children and adolescent victims of sexual and other serious crimes, as well as to collect their testimonies in an appropriate manner while respecting their rights. Nearly half of the interviewers accredited to carry out these tasks come from the two police forces, Carabineros de Chile and the Investigative Police, thus it becomes essential to assess their competencies. In this study, 61 professionals were evaluated. They conducted simulated interviews with interpreters of the role of child victims before and after their participation in their Initial Specialized Training Courses executed between 2018 and 2020. In line with national and international experiences, the results show that there was a substantial increase in the formulation of questions that promote a free narrative of the victims, and a significant decrease in questions that are less recommended or are harmful to them. The study also observed some advantages in the performance of female professionals and the ones who had previous experience on or knowledge about forensic interviewing, which highlights the need for ongoing training and practice to level competencies among them.La Ley 21.057 introdujo la técnica de Entrevista Investigativa Videograbada (EIV) para prevenir la victimización secundaria de niños, niñas y adolescentes víctimas de delitos sexuales y otros delitos graves y recoger sus testimonios de manera adecuada y respetando sus derechos. Cerca de la mitad de los entrevistadoras/es acreditadas para realizar estas labores provienen de Carabineros de Chile y Policía de Investigaciones, por lo que resulta fundamental conocer sus competencias. En este estudio se evaluó a 61 profesionales quienes condujeron una entrevista simulada con intérpretes del rol de niños, niñas y adolescentes víctimas antes y después de su participación en sus Cursos Iniciales de Formación Especializada (CIFE), ejecutados entre 2018 y 2020. En línea con experiencias nacionales e internacionales, los resultados muestran que hubo un aumento sustancial de la formulación de preguntas que promueven el relato libre de las víctimas y una disminución significativa de las preguntas menos recomendadas o nocivas para estas. Se observaron también algunas ventajas en el desempeño de profesionales mujeres y con experiencia o conocimientos previos en EIV, relevando la necesidad de la formación y práctica continua para nivelar las competencias.
