| dc.description | This article stems from the observation that women and women of colour are underrepresented in contemporary art museums, art centres and exhibitions in Latin America, in regards of cultural policies, artistic institutions and curatorial practices. Concretely, it investigates the potential of the latter —the curatorial practices— of producing more inclusive and egalitarian sociocultural representations through the so-called curatorial activism. In line with the counter-hegemonic actions that have been taking place in the context of feminist struggles since the beginning of the century in Latin America, this piece focuses on the issue of race or ethnicity, which is an intrinsic dimension of the colonial matrix of power and the decolonial thought developed in the continent. After a historical-theoretical survey of the low representation of women and particularly of women of colour in art history, it addresses the concepts of intersectionality, coloniality of gender, epistemic and institutional racism, and curatorial activism. The article examines the implications of the articulation of curatorial activism and decoloniality of gender through the analysis of two curatorial projects in Latin America. These expose the existence of curatorial strategies that are socially engaged with diversity and actively counteract the continued underrepresentation, silencing and neglect of the history still suffered by many artists and women of colour, which glances at a movement towards the decolonization of epistemologies, knowledge and, of course, aesthetics. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este artículo parte de la observación de la subrepresentación de artistas mujeres y mujeres de color en museos, centros de arte y exposiciones de arte contemporáneo en América Latina, lo cual atañe al ámbito de las políticas culturales, las instituciones artísticas y las prácticas curatoriales. En particular indaga en el potencial de estas últimas, las prácticas curatoriales, de producir representaciones socioculturales más inclusivas e igualitarias a través del llamado activismo curatorial. En línea con las acciones curatoriales contrahegemónicas que se vienen realizando desde inicios de siglo en América Latina en torno a las luchas feministas, este trabajo se detiene en la cuestión de la raza o etnicidad, dimensión intrínseca a la matriz colonial del poder y al pensamiento decolonial desarrollado en el mismo continente. Luego de un recorrido histórico-teórico en torno a la escasa representación de las mujeres en la historia del arte, y, en particular, de las llamadas mujeres de color, se abordan los conceptos de interseccionalidad, colonialidad de género, racismo epistémico e institucional y activismo curatorial. En la articulación entre activismo curatorial y decolonialidad de género, el artículo indaga las implicaciones de estas prácticas a través del análisis de dos propuestas curatoriales en Latinoamérica. Con ellas se vislumbra la existencia de estrategias curatoriales socialmente comprometidas con la diversidad que activamente contrarrestan la continuada infrarrepresentación, el silenciamiento y el olvido de la historia que muchas artistas y mujeres de color siguen padeciendo. En estas estrategias insurgentes se atisba un movimiento que camina hacia la descolonización de las epistemologías, del conocimiento y, por supuesto, de la estética. | es-ES |
