dc.descriptionThe fragmentation that characterizes the current urban structure of the city of Valdivia has affected the accessibility and legibility of its natural structuring element: its hydrographic network. Deficiencies in urban planning have in turn brought environmental degradation and exclusion of public uses associated with these riverfronts. The protection of the ecological value of rivers and their banks, as well as the provision of quality public spaces, are objectives of sustainable urban development. Faced with this challenge, an assessment of fluvial public spaces is proposed, which covers morphological, social and ecological aspects of urban design, with the aim of contributing to the design and planning of these places from the perspective of sustainability. This article focuses on the discussion and evaluation of the concepts of physical accessibility and legibility in ten case studies located on the banks of the Calle-Calle and Cruces rivers.en-US
dc.descriptionLa fragmentación que caracteriza la estructura urbana actual de la ciudad de Valdivia ha afectado la accesibilidad y legibilidad de su elemento natural estructurante: su red hidrográfica. Deficiencias en la planificación urbana han traído a su vez degradación ambiental y exclusión de los usos públicos asociados a estos bordes de agua. La protección del valor ecológico de los ríos y sus bordes, así como la dotación de espacios públicos de calidad son algunos de los objetivos del desarrollo urbano sostenible. Frente a este desafío, se propone una matriz de evaluación de espacios públicos fluviales, que abarca aspectos morfológicos, sociales y ecológicos del diseño urbano, con el objetivo de aportar al diseño y planificación de estos lugares desde la perspectiva de la sostenibilidad. Este artículo se centra en la discusión y evaluación de los conceptos de accesibilidad física y legibilidad en 10 casos de estudio, ubicados en las riberas de los ríos Calle-Calle y Cruces.es-ES
