INTRODUCTION. The methodology of lexical availability is used in the registration of the fundamental vocabulary of a language, in addition, it allows the description of the lexical relationships established by a community or an individual. Among other applications, it is also used for the investigation of the domain of specialized vocabulary. METHODOLOGY. The research corpus was made up of 158 students who joined UPZ in 2018, enrolled in the Industrial Engineering program. The centers of interest that were used as a stimulus for the production of terminology were "Linear Algebra", "Calculus", "Equation", "Statistics" and "Industrial Engineering. RESULTS. The results obtained revealed that the words with greater availability correspond to basic arithmetic, while terms of greater importance in the university performance of mathematical knowledge were not produced, are not known, and therefore it is necessary to teach the technology. DISCUSSION This article presents the results obtained through the methodology of the available lexicon applied in the investigation of the knowledge of mathematical terms by students of the Universidad Politécnica de Zacatecas. The hypothesis that motivated this work is that the lack of knowledge of mathematical terminology has repercussions in the academic performance because it implies the absence of a conceptual configuration, indispensable in the understanding, exercise and use of mathematics.INTRODUCCIÓN. La metodología de la disponibilidad léxica es utilizada en el registro del vocabulario fundamental de una lengua, además, permite la descripción de las relaciones léxicas establecidas por una comunidad o un individuo. Entre otras aplicaciones, se utiliza también para la investigación del dominio de vocabulario especializado. METODOLOGÍA. El corpus de investigación estuvo conformado por 158 alumnos de nuevo ingreso en la UPZ en 2018, inscritos en la carrera de Ingeniería Industrial. Los centros de interés que se utilizaron como estímulo para la producción de terminología fueron “Algebra lineal”, “Cálculo”, “Ecuación”, “Estadística” e “Ingeniería Industrial.  RESULTADOS. Los resultados obtenidos revelaron que los vocablos con mayor disponibilidad corresponden a la aritmética básica, mientras que no se produjeron, no se conocen, no son disponibles términos de mayor importancia en el desempeño universitario del conocimiento matemático, por lo que es necesaria la enseñanza del tecnolecto. DISCUSIÓN Este artículo presenta los resultados obtenidos a través de la metodología del léxico disponible aplicada en la investigación del conocimiento de términos matemáticos por parte de alumnos de la Universidad Politécnica de Zacatecas. La hipótesis que motivó este trabajo es que el desconocimiento de la terminología matemática repercute en el desempeño académico porque implica la ausencia de una configuración conceptual, indispensable en la comprensión, el ejercicio y la utilización de las matemáticas.
