The image that is usually associated with the sacrificial cult of the people of Israel is that of animal sacrifices, first of all the holocaust. Generally, in fact, we tend to almost completely ignore the fact that there were also vegetable offerings, which in some cases accompanied the animal sacrifice while in others represented the offer tout court in temple worship. The present work intends to study the role and function of the vegetable offering, with particular attention to the offering of “fine flour” (סֹלֶת) and its importance in the sacrificial system of the Torah in general and of the book of Numbers in particular. The study begins with a lexicographic survey, and then devotes itself to examining the occurrences of the term both in extra-liturgical and liturgical contexts.La imagen que suele asociarse al culto sacrificial del pueblo de Israel, en primer lugar, es la de los sacrificios de animales. Generalmente, se tiende a ignorar casi por completo el hecho de que también había ofrendas vegetales, que en algunos casos acompañaban al sacrificio animal mientras que en otros representaban la ofrenda tout court en el culto del templo. El presente trabajo pretende estudiar el papel y función de la ofrenda vegetal, con especial atención a la de la flor de harina (סֹלֶת) y la importancia que tiene en el sistema sacrificial de la Torá en general y del libro de Números en particular. El estudio comienza con un análisis lexicográfico y luego se dedica a examinar las ocurrencias del término, tanto en el ámbito extralitúrgico como en el litúrgico.
