Richard Hooker (1554-1600), one of the most important English intellectualsof the late sixteenth century, developed a model of causal and deterministic explanationof reality approaching two important ideas present in the ancient world: the law andcause, through the Neoplatonic idea of participation. The Torrance Kirby thesis, one of hisimportant scholars, is that Hooker took this idea from the Neo-Platonist Proclus. Based onthis premise, the aim of this article is to reconstruct this approximation between law, cause,and participation in Hooker’s thought. To this end, chapters II and III of Book I Of the Lawsof Ecclesiastical Polity will be revisited, as well as the available literature.Richard Hooker (1554-1600), um dos mais importantes intelectuais ingleses do final do século XVI, desenvolveu um modelo de explicação causal e determinístico da realidade ao aproximar, por meio da ideia neoplatônica de participação, duas importantes ideias presentes no mundo antigo: a lei e a causa. A tese defendida por Torrance Kirby, um de seus importantes comentadores, é que Hooker assumiu essa ideia do neoplatônico Proclo. Partindo dessa premissa, o objetivo desse artigo é reconstruir essa aproximação entre lei, causa e participação no pensamento de Hooker. Para tanto, serão revisitados, mais detidamente, os capítulos II e III do Livro I Of the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity, bem como a literatura disponível.
