| dc.description | Recognizing the potential of the social representations that integrate water culture at the local scale as a component of great importance to achieve sustainable territorial balance, this article analyzes through these representations the factors that shape the relationships of inhabitants with water in the city of Piura, Peru. From a qualitative approach, the meanings that emerge from the information collected in a semi-structured survey, in-depth interviews, a participatory workshop, and in documents that present situations that inhabitants do not reflect in their discourse are interpreted. It is revealed that the central representations of water show a utilitarian anthropocentric vision of water as an urban service and a way of seeing it as a common good with an attitude focused on the conservation of the resource. These socio-cognitive constructs are manifested in the daily practices of water use and are associated with the meanings attributed to water elements of the territory, such as the Piura river and the rains of the El Niño phenomenon, which integrate the local water culture. It is concluded by arguing that the knowledge of how the inhabitants relate to water, in dialogue with scientific knowledge, can contribute to the sustainable management of water resources in the territory of the northern Peruvian coast where the city is located. | en-US |
| dc.description | Reconociendo el potencial de las representaciones sociales que integran la cultura del agua a escala local, como un componente de suma importancia para lograr el equilibrio territorial sostenible, este artículo analiza a través de dichas representaciones los factores que modelan las relaciones de los habitantes con el agua en la ciudad de Piura, Perú. Desde el enfoque cualitativo, se interpretan los significados que emergen de la información recogida en una encuesta semiestructurada, entrevistas en profundidad, un taller participativo y en documentos que presentan situaciones que los habitantes no reflejan en su discurso. Se revela que las representaciones centrales del agua muestran una visión antropocéntrica utilitarista de esta como servicio urbano y una mirada como bien común con una actitud enfocada en la conservación del recurso. Estos constructos sociocognitivos se manifiestan en las prácticas cotidianas de uso del agua y están asociados con los significados atribuidos a los elementos hídricos del territorio, como el río Piura y las lluvias del fenómeno El Niño (fen), que integran la cultura del agua local. Se concluye argumentando que el conocimiento de la forma cómo los habitantes se relacionan con el agua, en diálogo con el saber científico, puede contribuir a la gestión sostenible del recurso hídrico en el territorio de la costa norte peruana donde se emplaza la ciudad. | es-ES |
