| dc.description | Eva Illouz’s concept of ‘emotional domination’ derives from the Bourdieuan notion of ‘symbolic violence’, which alludes to relationships of domination in which the dominated do not have any other instrument to know the real than the one they share with the dominators. In a context of loss of traditional male authority at work and home, men today reaffirm their status through cumulative sexuality and affective detachment, which gives them emotional control of their relationships with women. In contemporary societies, governed by the affective paradigm of ‘negative relationships’ –in which, in a general way, affective-sex ties are deregulated and see their contours increasingly blurred–, heterosexual women suffer from this ‘emotional domination’, which enters in conflict with their greater aspirations for exclusivity and commitment, their greater emotional availability and theirsocial responsibility for the function of reproduction. | en-US |
| dc.description | El concepto de ‘dominación emocional’ de Eva Illouz se deriva de la noción bourdieuana de ‘violencia simbólica’, que alude a las relaciones de dominación en las que los dominados no disponen para conocer lo real de otro instrumento que el que comparten con los dominadores. En un contexto de pérdida de la autoridad tradicional masculina en el trabajo y el hogar, los hombres reafirman hoy su estatus a través de la sexualidad acumulativa y el desapego afectivo, lo que les otorga el control emocional de sus relaciones con las mujeres. En las sociedades contemporáneas, gobernadas por el paradigma afectivo de las ‘relaciones negativas’ –en el que, de forma generalizada, los vínculos sexoafectivos se desregulan y ven desdibujarse crecientemente sus contornos–, las mujeres heterosexuales sufren esta ‘dominación emocional’, que entra en conflicto con sus mayores aspiraciones de exclusividad y compromiso, su mayor disponibilidad emocional y su responsabilización social de la función de la reproducción. | es-ES |
