dc.descriptionThe history of migrations in Chile in the 19th century was marked by the cultural, intellectual, and political actions of intellectual figures that resonate until today. A fundamental case in the mid-nineteenth century was the intellectual gaze of Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, who formed and promoted an agrarian-industrial migratory model based on topical categories that would form a doxa between the idea of barbarism and civilization. This article is divided into two parts: the first part examines the intellectual and historical-contextual path that Vicuña Mackenna lived before his main work on the subject, specifically the “Bases for migration in Chile” report of 1865. The second part is a historical discussion of his thought, influences, and intellectual-networks based on the analysis of the mentioned report.en-US
dc.descriptionLa historia de las migraciones en el Chile del siglo XIX estuvo marcada por la acción cultural, intelectual y política de personajes que resuenan hasta el día de hoy. Un caso fundamental a mediados del siglo XIX fue la mirada intelectual de Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, que a su haber formó e impulsó un modelo migratorio agrario-industrial basado en categorías tópicas que formarían una doxa entre la idea de barbarie y civilización. El presente artículo está dividido en dos partes: la primera que trata sobre el camino intelectual y contextual histórico que vivió Vicuña Mackenna antes de su obra central sobre la temática, a saber, el informe “Bases para la migración en Chile” de 1865. La segunda parte, trata de un análisis histórico de su pensamiento, influencias y redes intelectuales a partir del análisis del mismo informe.es-ES
