In this paper we propose a reflection on the theoretical and empirical relevance of approaching the study of historical linguistic change study considering marginalia, that is, phenomena that are typologically unexceptional, but which have been ignored in linguistic research. The objective is to draw attention to the tunnel vision that linguistic theories usually entail for those who work within them, since the paradigms themselves and the study methods that are developed within such theories lead to ignoring certain linguistic phenomena relevant to the study of languages which are relegated to the margins of linguistic description. In order to prove the relevance of these marginalia, we will point out the importance they have had for the advancement of linguistic theories in the last two hundred years.En este trabajo proponemos una reflexión acerca de la relevancia teórica y empírica de abordar el estudio del cambio lingüístico histórico tomando en consideración los marginalia, esto es, fenómenos que tipológicamente no son excepcionales, pero que han sido ignorados en la investigación lingüística. El objetivo es llamar la atención sobre la visión de túnel que las teorías lingüísticas suelen comportar, puesto que los propios paradigmas y los métodos de estudio que se desarrollan en su interior suelen llevar a ignorar ciertos fenómenos lingüísticos relevantes para el estudio de las lenguas, que quedan relegados al margen de la descripción lingüística. A fin de probar la relevancia de estos marginalia, señalaremos la importancia que han tenido para el avance de las teorías lingüísticas en los últimos doscientos años.
