dc.descriptionThis article investigates the clothing in the María Elena saltpetre office during the Guggenheim extraction cycle, focusing on the footwear used by the residents. Socio-cultural differences based on class and gender are analysed, and the context, use, and meaning of the male "calamorro" shoes and the women's high-heeled shoes are examined. The research is based on interviews conducted by the research team, on-site photographic material, and excerpts from local literature addressing life in the saltpetre pampa. Through these elements, the article aims to preliminarily explore how shoes can provide information about the way of life of workers and women in a 20th-century mining company that operated as a planned community.en-US
dc.descriptionEn este artículo se investiga la vestimenta en la oficina salitrera María Elena durante el ciclo extractivo Guggenheim, centrándose en el calzado utilizado por los residentes. Se examinó el contexto, uso y significado de los zapatos masculinos "calamorros" y femeninos con tacones, también se analizó los particulares contextos laborales, cotidianos, domingo y festividades. La investigación se basa en entrevistas, material fotográfico tomado en el lugar y extractos de literatura local que abordan la vida en la pampa salitrera. A través de estos elementos, se busca explorar preliminarmente cómo los zapatos pueden proporcionar información sobre la forma de vida de los obreros y las mujeres en una empresa minera del siglo XX que funcionaba como una comunidad planificada.es-ES
