dc.descriptionThis article seeks to explore whether is possible to conceive health as a functional system (according to Niklas Luhmman’s system theory). First, we will discuss Niklas Luhmann’s argument on the exclusion of health from the functional system status (I). Then, we will expound Niklas Luhmann’s theory on the emergence and social stabilization of functional systems (II). We will reconstruct the social evolution of health’s semantics and structure (III); in order to underline the main features of health as a functional system –the distinctiveness of its emergency process, the distinctiveness of its social stabilization process, the distinctiveness of its operations (as well as the obstacles for its functioning) (IV). We will conclude this work with a brief discussion on the implications and challenges for a systemic codification of health (V).en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo busca explorar la posibilidad de concebir a la salud como un sistema funcional desde las premisas teóricas de la obra de Niklas Luhmann. A partir de la revisión del argumento establecido por Luhmann para no incluir a la salud dentro de la categoría de sistemas funcionales (I), se expondrán los requisitos analíticos para la emergencia y estabilización de un sistema funcional en consonancia con los principios teóricos de la obra de Luhmann (II). Luego, reconstruiremos las derivas evolutivas de la semántica y la estructura del sistema de salud –hasta llegar a su estado social actual (III); con el objetivo de subrayar las particularidades de su emergencia, de su estabilización y de su operatividad como sistema funcional –así como de los obstáculos para su operatividad como consecuencia de sus particularidades como sistema (IV). Se concluye este trabajo con una breve discusión sobre las posibilidades, alcances y desafíos de la codificación sistémica de la salud (V).es-ES
