Nutritional status according to age group and level of motor impairment in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy

dc.descriptionIntroduction: In children with cerebral palsy (CP) nutritional status is often linked to malnutrition which is due, in part, to motor compromise.Objective: To analyse the relationship between nutritional status, age group and motor compromise according to GMFCS in children and adolescents with CP.Method: Multicentre, observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. Boys and girls with CP aged 2 to 19 years were sequentially included in the study. Nutritional status was assessed with WHO Anthro Plus WHO 2007 software. Data were analysed with ANOVA (p < 0.05). Results: 191 subjects were studied. Mean age 11.37 (4.19) years. GMFCS was level I 26, II 20, III 36, IV 39 and V 70 subjects. For W/A most were below the established population mean, children with severe CP were found to be below z-score -1.99 and for the 6-10 years and 11-14 years groups the difference was statistically significant. H/A, all children and adolescents were below the established population mean and growth in both groups decreased as they advanced in age. From the age of 6 years onwards, a statistically significant difference was observed in the H/A for both groups. BMI/A, in both groups, is between the population mean and the z-score -2, within normal parameters. There are no statistically significant differences between the groups of children with mild-moderate and severe CP. Conclusion: Short stature and low weight in children with CP is associated with increasing chronological age and motor compromise.en-US
dc.descriptionIntroducción: En niños con parálisis cerebral (PC) suele relacionarse el estado nutricional con malnutrición que se debe, en parte, al compromiso motor.Objetivo: Analizar la relación entre el estado nutricional, el grupo etario y el compromiso motor según GMFCS en niños, niñas y adolescentes con PC.Material y método: Estudio multicéntrico, observacional, descriptivo y transversal. Se incluyeron secuencialmente niños y niñas con PC de 2 a 19 años. El estado nutricional se valoró con el software WHO Anthro Plus OMS 2007. Se analizaron los datos con ANOVA (p<0,05).Resultados: Se estudiaron 191 sujetos. Edad promedio 11,37 (4,19) años. La GMFCS fue nivel I 26, II 20, III 36, IV 39 y V 70 sujetos. Para el P/E la mayoría estuvo por debajo de la media poblacional establecida, los niños con PC severa se encontraron por debajo del puntaje z -1.99 y para los grupos de 6-10 años y de 11-14 años la diferencia fue estadísticamente significativa. T/E, todos los niños y adolescentes estuvieron debajo de la media poblacional establecida y el crecimiento en ambos grupos fue disminuyendo a medida que avanzaban en su edad. A partir de los 6 años se observa en la T/E para ambos grupos una diferencia estadísticamente significativa. El IMC/E, se encuentra en ambos grupos entre la media poblacional y el puntaje z -2, dentro de los parámetros normales. No existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los grupos de niños con PC leve-moderada y severa.Conclusión: La baja talla y el bajo peso en los niños con PC está asociada con el aumento de la edad cronológica y el compromiso motor.es-ES
