The article reconstructs the trajectory of Orlando Rodríguez, Chilean teacher and theater critic, between 1953 and 1973, where his cultural contribution has been forgotten. The methodology used is an exercise between history and memory. For that reason, the press about theater and was reviewed, complemented it with oral testimonies from its former students, today Chilean artists of the scene. Therefore, history and memory allow us to identify the role of Chilean theater until the coup d'état. Finally, Rodríguez was a cultural reflection of the environment, since the theater became part of the social mobilizations, enabling the rise of Popular Unity.El artículo reconstruye la trayectoria de Orlando Rodríguez, docente y crítico teatral chileno, entre 1953 a 1973, en dónde su contribución cultural estaba en el olvido. La metodología utilizada es un ejercicio entre historia y memoria. Por esa razón, revisamos prensa sobre teatro y lo complementamos con testimonios orales de sus exestudiantes, hoy artistas chilenos de la escena. Por consiguiente, historia y memoria, permiten identificar el rol del teatro chileno hasta el Golpe de Estado. Finalmente, Rodríguez fue un reflejo cultural del ambiente, ya que, el teatro se hizo parte de las movilizaciones sociales, posibilitando el ascenso de la Unidad Popular.
