dc.descriptionThe present work analyzes the institutional construction and the dynamics of the political actors through the First Brazilian Republic, also known as República Velha (1989-1930). It is argued that this form of federative republic shows an important distance compared to the Philadelphia model. This is due to the combination of both formal and informal institutions, despite showing less power concentration related to the functional dimension and in the territorial dimension as well, remains different from the North American case. The República Velha can achieves political stability from the the instauration of a cartelized oligarchic system, which is also known as política do café com leite by the historiography. This political concept describes the agreements between both Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais oligarchies.en-US
dc.descriptionEste trabajo analiza la construcción de instituciones y la dinámica de los actores políticos durante la Primera República brasileña o República Velha (1989-1930). Se sostiene aquí, que la república federativa que se instaura en Brasil se distancia del modelo de Filadelfia. Su combinación de instituciones formales e informales, si bien comparativamente con el estado unitario imperial, muestra un sistema que concentra menos el poder en su dimensión funcional y lo centraliza menos en su dimensión territorial, dista sustantivamente del caso estadounidense. La República Velha logra la estabilidad política a partir del establecimiento de un sistema oligárquico cartelizado, más inclusivo que el imperial, pero excluyente a la vez, referido por la historiografía como política do café com leite, para señalar el acuerdo entre las oligarquías de São Paulo y Minas Gerais.es-ES
