Historically the craft works produced by women in their own homes have been excluded from the books of design history. The evolution of gender studies forces us to pay attention to these works, often produced in collaboration with others or collectively.This paper offers an approach to the creative and collaborative work that the bookbinder Adina Amenedo and the designer Mauricio Amster carried out in Chile after their arrival in 1939. In tackling the cultural exchange between exiles and Chileans, this article analyzes the short story “La Copia” by José Santos González Vera, exposing a vital relationship between the author, Amenedo and Amster.The research reveals an interesting dialogue between crafts and design, visual and textual representations and different creative actors involved in the books.Históricamente los trabajos artesanales producidos por las mujeres en sus hogares han sido excluidos de los libros de historia del diseño. El auge y evolución de los estudios de género nos obligan a poner atención en ellos, a menudo realizados en forma colaborativa o colectivamente.En este artículo se ofrece una aproximación al trabajo creativo y colaborativo que la encuadernadora Adina Amenedo y el diseñador Mauricio Amster realizaron en Chile tras su llegada en 1939. Para dar cuenta del intercambio cultural entre exiliados y chilenos se presenta un análisis del cuento “La Copia” de José Santos González Vera en el que se devela un vínculo vital entre el autor, Amenedo y Amster.La investigación muestra un interesante diálogo entre artesanía y diseño, entre representaciones visuales y textuales y los diferentes agentes creativos que intervienen en el objeto libro.
