Rimac River as the main hidrological source in the triple basin where the city of Lima sits is, at the same time, by far the most degradated by human activity. The intention behind this article lies in offering an initial relflexion on the oportunities which come from the restoration of Rimac River’s Natural Capital. For this, the concept of Natural Capital concerning human wellfare will be developed also estabishing it’s importance in urban riverside areas. These concepts will be used tu discuss the oportunities of restoring Rimac River’s Natural Capital considering it’s historical moments as well as how the different plans and projects which have been developed for the city of Lima during the 20th century approach the river.El Río Rímac como principal fuente hidrológica de la triple cuenca sobre la cual se asienta la ciudad de Lima es, al mismo tiempo, la más degradada por la actividad humana. La intención del artículo es ofrecer una reflexión inicial sobre las oportunidades de restaurar el Capital Natural (CN) del Río Rímac. Para ello se desarrollará el concepto de Capital Natural en función del bienestar humano estableciendo la importancia y oportunidades de su restauración en las zonas ribereñas urbanas. Estos conceptos se aprovecharán para filtrar la discusión sobre las oportunidades de restaurar el CN en el Río Rímac tomando en consideración sus etapas o momentos históricos así mismo como la manera en que los diferentes planes y proyectos que han intentado ordenar el crecimiento de la ciudad de Lima a partir del siglo XX abordan el río.
